Goals

Marketing

  • Work with Busch Ag Resources, Cargill, the North Dakota Barley Council and others to increase irrigation for malting barley.
  • Work with Heartland Feed, Inc., Tioga, to implement a business plan for irrigated alfalfa production.
  • Work with the Commercial Vegetable Growers and provide support for vegetable industry development.
  • Work with stakeholders in the ethanol industry to develop irrigated corn rotation for ethanol plants.
  • Strengthen communication and partnerships with local economic development authorities.
  • Assist the Governor's Office to accomplish effective coordination of marketing efforts in North Dakota.

Funding & Financing

  • Strengthen and enhance the Bank of North Dakota/State Water Commission Ag Pace irrigation loan program.
  • Secure funding for irrigation district projects in North Dakota from federal and state sources.
  • Secure approval for USDA federal loan guarantees for irrigation projects, high-value production storage and processing facilities.
  • Develop other funding sources and financing programs to support and enhance irrigation development in North Dakota.

Projects

  • Work with and assist irrigation districts.
  • Establish water supply development.
  • Provide irrigation management assistance to irrigators.
  • Work with suppliers and dealers on equipment and technology advances.
  • Work to strengthen EQIP opportunities for irrigation in North Dakota.
  • Develop partnerships with other entities for irrigation development and production.

Research

  • Continue funding for research at Oakes, Carrington, Williston and Tappen.
  • Establish research priorities.
  • Develop research projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate research fundraising, communication of outcomes and other activities.
  • On-farm case studies.
  • Deliver research to irrigators in North Dakota.

Affordable Energy

  • Develop a database to provide irrigators with energy cost information and options.
  • Secure federal hydropower for first lift water supply.
  • Develop information on alternative power sources.
  • Develop partnerships with local power distribution entities.
